Kashering Glass Stove Top

שאלה:

Dear DIN Rabbi,

We have a glass stove top, with 4 electric burners.
How do we clean the top of the stove?

Wondering, if we cook some meat on a burner. And it splatters on the stove top, between the 4 burners. How do we clean that area between the burners? And the burner area, too.

The next day, we can cook a dairy item on a burner. And it splatters between the 4 burners. So how do we clean the area between the 4 burners? And the burner area, too.

What leads me to ask this question is that as a child, our home always had different burners designated for meat, and different burners designated for dairy. In recent reading, I notice this is unnecessary, as the high temperature of the burner “kashers” the burner to some extent.

For now, we have burners designated for meat, and different ones for dairy.

Basically, can we use a soapy napkin to clean the entire stove top? Even if the same napkin wipes each of the burner areas, etc?
THANK U for a thorough response to this . . .

תשובה:

Hello,

There is a dispute whether glass absorbs milk/meaty taste. The Halacha, as heard from HaRav Yisrael Gans shlita (based on Shulchan Aruch O;C 451:26), is that glass does not absorb milk/meaty taste and therefore it is unnecessary to kasher the glass and wiping the glass with a soapy cloth is enough.

All the best
