Question:
If say we a have a fetus inside the mother during the 9th month, and we have a Safek if the babies life is in danger. We still desecrate the Sabbath to save the babies life. Now we know there are various reasons why we desecrate the Sabbath when someone’s life is in danger. One reason is the Torah says Vchai Bohem. A 2nd reason the Gemara says is in order to be able to observe future Sabbaths. In the case of the fetus, the reason of Vchai Bohem doesn’t apply as a fetus is not considered alive. Furthermore, the Gemara in Yuma says all the reasons listed are only where we have definite danger to life. How do me know in a case a Safek? The Gemara says the only source for Safek is the verse Vchai Bohem.So in this case of the fetus, where there is Safek, we don’t have either reason. So how do we know that we desecrate the Sabbath in this case. Please explain and provide sources.
