Cherries

Halve each cherry, remove the pit and check for small white worms (Illustration 196).
American cherries are usually clean.

European: Open and check for pinkish-white worms (Illustration 197).
American: Presumed clean.

European (from Turkey, whole with pit): Not recommended, due to the difficulty of checking and the high likelihood of infestation.
American (pitted): Presumed clean.

Require checking, especially if they come from Eastern Europe. Halve each cherry and check the pit area for a worm.
American cherries are usually clean.
