Cauliflower

[level h3=” Fresh ” gen=”3″ gb=” us=” il=”]

The insects hide within the florets, making it very difficult to check and nearly impossible to clean (Illustrations 188, 189).

The wide stalk and thick branches (without any florets) may be used as follows:
A. Cut off and discard the small leaves attached to the wide stalk, and all the florets together with the thin branches that are attached to them.
B. Soak the stalks and thick branches in soapy water.
C. Rinse well.

[level h3=” Frozen ” gen=”3″ gb=” us=” il=”]

Frozen cauliflower has the same problems as fresh cauliflower, but due to its moistness, it cannot be cleaned (Illustrations 190, 191). Therefore it should not be used, unless it has a reliable kashrus certification attesting that it is insect-free.

Specially grown bug-free cauliflower

Fresh

A. Separate into small stalks with the attached florets.
B. Soak in soapy water for three minutes.
C. Rinse well.
If any infestation is noticed, the cauliflower should not be used.

Frozen

Frozen cauliflower that was specially grown and has a top-rate hashgocho is insect-free.
