Baked goods

matzo, biscuits, cookies

During prolonged storage, they may become wormy.

If they were stored for a long time or taste stale, check a few as follows:

Hold the baked good horizontally at eye-level and look for webbing hanging from it (Illustration 26). Break a few into pieces and check for internal infestation. If signs of infestation are found, do not use the product.

If there is a great deal of powder in the package, strain the powder through a mesh strainer such as a rice-strainer and check for worms or webbing in the strainer and insects in the strained powder.

Note to kashrus mashgichim:

At the end of the third volume of the Hebrew sefer Bedikas HaMazon K’Halachah there is a detailed appendix about bakeries.
